From the entrance, a stairway leads to wobbly open metal spiral staircase to first floor ringing chamber.
A Bell restoration project is underway to make the bells easier to ring see the Church Website for more details and fund raising events.
Mr. Denys Brooks, a former bellringer, supplied the information below. Mr Owen Freeman was responsible for the original installation of the bells, and also for the design of the long since removed spire of Lye church. Four commemorative plaques can still be seen in the inside corners of the tower, just below the roof level, The Belgian founder of Lye's bells was Van Aersthott, of Louvain. The bells are quite unique as, they are Belgian, and change ringing is, generally speaking, confined to English speaking countries, so they could not have been intended for an English church. Each of the bells is named after a Christian virtue: Faith, Hope, Patience, Wisdom, Truth, Love, Joy, Peace. Due to their lightness the bells are not easy to ring.
Visiting ringers should seek the tower correspondent details from the W&DCRA annual report Northern Branch section, which is also available online in the Association section of this site.
